Regional travel in Peru – Travel program PTW-MAN004-en
4 days / 3 nights – Start: thursday (from 2 participants)
Let us
guide you through a biotope that is unique in the world: the Manu National
Park, where flora and fauna are more diverse than anywhere else on earth.
After an indescribable sunrise over the sea of clouds in the Amazon
rainforest, you begin your trekking tour. Walk down the eastern slopes of
the Andes through Manu National Park on an ancient Inca trail. You cross
the fairytale world of the elf forest and reach the mountain cloud forest
and its immense variety of flora and fauna. Embark on discovery tours and
explore this unique biotope. Get to know the dreamlike idyll of the Manu
Ecolodge and enjoy deep relaxation.
You leave Cusco early in
the morning by vehicle from Cusco in easterly direction, pass the Sacred
Valley of the Incas and cross the 4100 m high Huachucasa pass. After a
winding and varied journey through small communities and lonely
landscapes, you will reach the village of Paucartambo and, after a final
climb, the border to Manu National Park at the Acjanaco checkpoint (3550
m). From there you hike to the Tres Cruces de Oro viewpoint (3800 m), high
above the eastern slopes of the Andes. Camp at the viewpoint.
The next morning, early
risers can experience an unforgettable sunrise over a sea of clouds. To
the east, the Andes drop into the Amazonian lowlands that stretch to the
horizon, on the other side lie the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera
Vilcanota and the Cordillera Urubamba. After breakfast you leave Tres
Cruces and start your trekking tour on a narrow Inca path through the
changing vegetation zones of the eastern slopes. You hike through the
upper part of the mountain cloud forest, the dwarfish so-called "elf
forest" with its mystical wafts of fog, pass a tree world covered with
bromeliads, walk in places through a kind of tunnel, where the path became
a ravine in the past through llama and horse drivers "burrowed" the level
of the tree roots and over thick carpets of moss and ferns. Since you have
the whole day at your disposal, you can always take time for photo and
viewing stops. In the afternoon you will reach Manu Jungle Lodge Tambo
Paititi (1500 m).
At sunrise you
experience the mountain cloud forest very much alive. After a little
refreshment we go in search of tracks and observation posts for birds,
monkeys and other animals. On a narrow trail through the mountain jungle,
we look out for Peru's national bird, the colorful rock cock, and other
bird species such as the toucan, quetzal, tanager and oropendula. With a
bit of luck you can also observe capuchin monkeys and the largest monkey
in Amazonia, the woolly monkey. Back at the lodge, a hearty breakfast
awaits you. In the afternoon we undertake another one to two hour hike on
lonely paths through the mountain cloud forest. Throughout the day there
are numerous opportunities to get to know the flora and fauna of the
mountain jungle better, to take a bath in the rushing river or to observe
the surroundings in peace and quiet directly from the lodge.
Again, get up early for a chance to see the
animals that are active in the morning hours. After breakfast you will get
on our bus, which will take you back to Paucartambo via the Acjanaco pass,
where you will have lunch in a small typical restaurant. We continue with
changing landscape impressions back to Cusco, arrival in the early
evening.
