Colca Valley
Arequipa is the second biggest city of Peru. It is located at 2360 m above see level and rests under the magestic Misti Vulcano (5500
m). Known as the «white city» because of the common use of the
«sillar» stone, that gives this part of Peru a particular architectonic caracteristic.
The pleasant weather of Arequipa mixed with the turistic attractions of the city and the beautiful landscapes as well as the spicy meals (rocoto relleno, cuy chactado and a variety of soups) guarantify a comfortable and friendly stay in Arequipa.
After a four hours trip it is possible to reach the Colca Valley, a very deep Canyon surrounded by numerous activ vulcanos and agricultural terrasses build by the nativ Collaguas and Cabanas on the steep mountain walls that create a spectacular view.
Numerous rests are witnesses the life in the region even before the conquest of the Spaniards that had big influence during the colonial time and left beautiful churches in several villages arround the Colca Canyon. On this high territories the main animal that lifes here is the
«alpaca», which wool is gained for many uses.
The observation point
«Cruz del Cóndor» offers a spectacular view and is famous becuse of the fly of the condor, that could be observed early in the morning.
