From Iquitos, a three-hour boat ride up the Amazon River near the confluence of the rivers Ucayali and Marañón, where nature has been preserved in its original form. There are over 400 bird species near the Muyuna Lodge. Bird watching around Muyuna Lodge, on the rivers Yanayacu and Tahuayo and on lake Corrientillo.
• Reception at Iquitos airport or hotel pick-up in Iquitos.
• Approximately 3-hour boat trip upstream on the Amazon.
• Arrival at the lodge.
• Lunch.
• Hike in the area to learn about plants that attract birds. For example, hummingbirds can easily be observed by Heliconia flowers.
• Dinner.
• Overnight stay at the Muyuna Lodge.
• Early morning hike into the remote jungle to track the crax globulosa (Crax globulosa). This is threatened with extinction and can only be found here in Peru.
• Lunch.
• Afternoon cruise along the Yanayacu river to look for more lowland jungle bird species such as parrots, macaws, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, granivorous passerines, flycatchers, antcatchers, tinamus, pigeons, musk ducks, cormorants, among others.
• Dinner.
• After dinner, a night excursion to see and hear nocturnal birds, e.g. nightjars, night herons, owls, night hawks.
• Overnight stay at the Muyuna Lodge.
• Breakfast.
• After breakfast, if conditions allow, a longer trip of around six hours to observe other birds, e.g. guans, hummingbirds, cuckoos, weirbirds, trappiste, woodpeckers, kotingas, tinamus, pigeons.
• Lunch.
• In the afternoon by boat on lake Corrientillo to look for local birds such as red-billed toucan, yellow-ridged toucan, western great egret, herons, kingfishers, orioles, horned screamer, cormorants, darters, vultures, antbirds, buzzards, antcatchers, antpittas, tapaculos, barbets, woodpeckers, hummingbirds.
• Dinner.
• After dinner, a nocturnal excursion to see and hear nocturnal birds.
• Overnight stay at the Muyuna Lodge.
• Very early in the morning visit to the Amazon islands to observe their endemic birds such as parker's spinetail, white-bellied spinetail, leaden antwren and riverside tyrant, which live on these islands. The festive parrot can also be found here, as well as the olive-spotted hummingbird, the little woodpecker, the red-and-white spinetail, the rare and little-known black-tailed antbird and the black-and-white antbird. On the other side of the Amazon river there are completely different bird species. With a bit of luck, pink dolphins playing around the boat can also be observed during the trip on the Amazon. On the way back to the lodge, the Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant, can be seen.

• Speedboat ride to Iquitos (about 2 hours).
• Transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima or to the hotel in Iquitos.
