The lake «Laguna de los Cóndores» is located in the upper reaches of the Chilchos river in the Huallaga watershed, in the border area between the departments of Amazonas and San Martin at an altitude of 2600 m. The terrain of the area is very irregular and the soil is filled with plenty of organic material. The plant growth is very dense and high. The grave niches at the Laguna de los Cóndores are located 100 m above the lake. The mausoleums consist of 6 graves. The 219 mummies from it were carefully transferred to the Centro Mallqui Museum.
• 5:00 h: Drive from Chachapoyas to Leymebamba (about 2 hours).
• Breakfast in Leymebamba.
• Hike to Laguna de los Cóndores through beautiful landscapes (about 10 hours).
• Overnight stay in a small hut near the lake.
• Breakfast.
• Hike to the lake and time to look at the lake and landscape and capture it in photos.
• Crossing the lake in a boat.
• Short hike to the Chachapoya tombs. View the burial grounds with explanations of the unique aspects of the burial customs of this pre-hispanic civilization.
• Return and opportunity to fish in the lake.
• Overnight stay in a small hut near the lake.
• Breakfast.
• Hike back to Leymebamba.
• Visit to the Centro Mallqui Museum with numerous archaeological finds and the mummies from Laguna de los Cóndores.
• Return to Chachapoyas.
