The Inca Trail through northern Peru provides an unforgettable experience as it offers a great mix of pre-inca archaeological sites, pre-hispanic trails and small colonial-era towns with magnificent views of the Andes. This hike is on the great Inca road system Gran Cápac Ñan, which at its peak reached 39,900 km in length and was declared a World Heritage Site in 2014. Visit the Kuelap fortress and stay overnight with local residents to get an insight into life in the northern Andes of Peru.
• About 6 hours hike from Chachapoyas to Levanto through impressive Andean landscapes.
• On the way visit the Yalape archaeological site, once a very important place in the Chachapoya empire.
• Overnight in Levanto.
• 21 km hike, descending from an altitude of 2800 m to 1800 m with stunning views of the Utcubamba gorge.
• On the way visit the pre-inca settlements of Machu Pirca and Macro.
• Overnight stay in Tingo.
• Hike uphill from 1800 m to 3000 m (about 4 hours).
• Visit to the Kuelap Fortress (approx. 3 hours).
• Return with the cable car to Tingo.
• Return to Chachapoyas.
